Colin Brant: Tibbar, Tibbar, Galleria Richter, Rome, Italy, December 12, 2023- January 12, 2024
The title “Tibbar Tibbar” (rabbit rabbit backwards, a good luck phrase used at the end of the year in certain parts of the United States) has a double mirror structure that Brant uses in his paintings. Mountains are reflected in water and become a new fantastic vision. Seascapes fracture and dissolve in light, and the paintings become a study in mutability and subjectivity. A simple word, repeated backwards, has the power to seem new and offer magical powers.
The artist will be showing two bodies of work, one referencing coastal Northern California where the artist grew up, and the other of fjords and scenic views of Norway. Both bodies of work reflect Brant’s interest in the metaphoric possibilities of wild places and our place in wildness.
